Below is a list of hazardous ingredients to avoid in your skin care and make up products. Even if  you buy products at a health food store they can still contain some of these. I admit that I am not perfect in this department. I found this list on one of my favorite websites. Mercola.com. He is a genius Dr, Naturalist, and whistle-blower. Companies tend to use these harmful ingredients because they’re cheap and readily available. Don’t be that girl 😉

Parabens–  Studies implicate their connection with cancer because their hormone-disrupting qualities mimic estrogen and could disrupt your body’s endocrine system

Mineral Oil, Paraffin, and Petrolatum-These petroleum products coat the skin like plastic – clogging pores and creating a build-up of toxins. They can slow cellular development, creating earlier signs of aging. They’re implicated as a suspected cause of cancer. Plus, they can disrupt hormonal activity. When you think about black oil pumped from deep underground, ask yourself why you’d want to put that kind of stuff on your skin…

Sodium laurel or lauryl sulfate (SLS)-SLS combined with other chemicals may become a “nitrosamine” – a potent carcinogen.

Acrylamide-Linked to mammary tumors.

Propylene glycol-May cause dermatitis and skin irritation. May inhibit skin cell growth. Linked to kidney and liver problems

Phenol carbolic acid-Can cause circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma, and even death from respiratory failure.

Dioxane-These chemicals are often contaminated with high concentrations of highly volatile 1,4-dioxane that’s easily absorbed through the skin. Its carcinogenicity was first reported in 1965, and later confirmed in studies including one from the National Cancer Institute in 1978. Nasal passages are considered extremely vulnerable, making it, in my opinion, a really bad idea to use these things on your face.

Toluene-Chronic exposure linked to anemia, lowered blood cell count, liver or kidney damage…May affect a developing fetus

smashboxI have been using Smashbox Soft Lights Luminance for years. I use it as a brow highlighter, eyeshadow, eyebrow and cheekbone highlighter. It’s a silky powder that goes on smoothly, but packs quite a punch. When you really want your eyes to pop- put it under the previously mentioned ME eyeshadow. I don’t believe they sell this exact one anymore so you may want to hurry up and find it on ebay. One pot lasts about five years. If only I could say that about my relationships 😉

When you want to look your best and bear no imperfections , liquid foundation is a must. I have discovered a new makeup line that you need to get familiar with. It is Hourglass Cosmetics, and I’m going to educate you on their incredible VEIL fluid Foundation. If you haven’t heard about them , it is because they put all their money into their products not into marketing. They have many devoted fans such as Anne Hathaway and Madonna ( who they developed a particular shade for). A few amazing things about this line; it’s Vegan, SPF 15,long-lasting,”formulated with Matrixyl to stimulate the production of collagen and reduce the appearance of wrinkles:, skin tightening, oil free, paraben free, phthalate and sulfate free. It is recommended you apply it with their special foundation brush. This foundation has a primer built-in, so you can skip that step. You need to save time with all the dates you’ll have lined up 🙂

If you feel like a little extra pampering, slather on Kate Somerville’s Quench under your moisturizer. I don’t entirely understand what this product is or does, but it feels right. The consistency is very thin, not like a thick cream or oil. It smells heavenly, and feels luxurious. Your skin is left looking luminous and hydrated. This product is not cheap, but neither are you!

Great product & superb packaging, Milani Brow Fix Brow Shaping Kit. I love the results I get with this product, and I smile every time I look at it. It’s soooo cute! This Compact contains seven essential tools: Straight edged tweezers, slanted brow filler brush, brow bone sponge applicator, 3X magnifying mirror, brow bone highlighter, and two tone-on-tone powders (light & dark) to fill and shape brows. It is available in 3 shades depending your skin/hair color. I don’t do my brows every day, and never in the daytime. However I found the powder “Hi-Lite” in this kit is absolutely perfect for a general highlighter. This commitmentphobe is finally committed…..to my browfix kit 😉

JASonMy life saver (aka the woman who does my facials) turned me on to Jason Red Elements Gentle Gel Cleanser. It is all natural, and cleans like crazy! This takes all your makeup off, and leaves your pores squeaky clean. My skin feels soft, and looks great, ever since I switched to this line. I follow with toner and moisturizer. I suggest you do the same. You can find it at  whole foods, and it will probably be the cheapest thing in your cart. But hey, organic chocolate and almond butter have no calories right?

I’m referring to my lashes of course. I have Rimmel’s Sexy Curves Mascara to thank for it. Now, I have had many love affairs with different mascaras over the years. But this one knows how to keep me committed. I prefer waterproof mascara in general, if you don’t, you’ll be happy to know they have a regular version. This mascara lengthens, separates, and curls. I haven’t touched my torture chamber aka eyelash curler in years.  It costs around $7 and stays strong for over 3 months. So throw out those fake lashes, because they look ridiculously fake anyway….someone had to tell you, you’re welcome
